Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by a virus. Hepatitis A usually spreads when someone eats or drinks something that has come in contact with the feces of someone with the disease, often when the infected person doesn't wash their hands before touching or preparing food. It can also spread through sexual contact.
Symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Upset stomach or vomiting
- Lack of appetite
- Dark urine or clay-colored feces
- Pain in the joints and stomach
- Jaundice
Hep A Vaccine
You may consider getting the Hep A vaccine if you have certain risk factors or wish additional protection. The vaccine is usually given in two doses about 6–18 months apart. Trade names include Havrix® and Vaqta®. Department of Health and Human Services
