To begin the process of becoming a Master Naturalist, please check the list of Extension units currently offering the program. Counties in orange have active Master Naturalist programs. Each unit will have their own application procedure, based on when the training classes will be offered. If your local Extension unit is not listed, please consider contacting the unit to express your interest in the program.

Recruitment of trainees will be based on pre-planning and an established need for local Master Naturalist volunteer activities.  Applicants complete an online or paper application for consideration into the program.

After applications are submitted, interviews will be scheduled with the local extension staff. If accepted into the program, the trainee will attend an orientation to the program and then begin the core training. Training sessions are typically offered one day a week over a 10-12 week period and are led by expert educators in the region.
